I commend you for helping us teach our students how to give selflessly. the lessons they learn will stick with them for a lifetime. Students refer to themselves as philanthropist!

The 4th graders at my school were inspired by this book and we are selling friendship bracelets and healthy snacks I think this is a great website for helping people in need, giving everyone a chance to help, & teaching kids about making a business.

Dear Friends,

Mark your calendars! On the evening of May 7th, One Hen will mark its first year as a nonprofit with:
"It Takes a Village, " at the Wellesley Country Club, a Spring Celebration and Fundraiser featuring an African market, vibrant music, dance and inspiring stories from youth who have gained an entrepreneurial vision for their future through One Hen programs.

We all have reason to celebrate. Since our founding we have reached 5,500 children with direct One Hen programs and 29,700 visitors on www.onehen.org, who in turn use One Hen resources to teach youth that true success comes with personal initiative, financial responsibility and a commitment to community. This would not have been possible without the support of all our partners, including individuals who collectively contributed $7,400 to our end-of-year campaign - enough to send over 120 kids through One Hen's innovative summer school programs. Read more below about our expanding partnerships and progress.

Warm Regards

Sneak Peak - Good Garden coming this Fall!
A second One Hen enrichment program, Maria's Garden; How Kids Can Fight World Hunger, is set to launch in fall 2010. It will replicate One Hen's Microfinance Teaching System, Kojo's Market: Microfinance for Kids, to introduce children to the concept of food security and what they can do about the global food crisis.

This new enrichment program comes with a new book by Katie Smith Milway, The Good Garden, which will be the basis for a "food security for kids" website: www.thegoodgarden.org. Together, website book and Maria's Garden curriculum will create an integrated environment for children to learn, play and make a difference on issues of food security and sustainable agriculture around the world. Click here to preview and reserve your copy of this new book.
